ABSTRACTDespite the numerous efforts by various Governments past and present to improve the quality of life and working conditions of public sector workers through better working environment and equipment, higher pay system, training and development over the years, workers in the public sector have periodically been embarking on general strikes asking for better working conditions of service, more compensation and other incentives, maintaining that much attention has not been given to the improvement of their remuneration and working conditions necessitating their frequent disgruntle and low levels of performance and productivity. The study aims to investigate job satisfaction and its impact on job performance of selected public sector institutions in the Dormaa East municipality. The research adopted descriptive case study design was employed for the study with the administration of questionnaires. Out of the 75 questionnaires administered, 70 were returned representing 93% response rate. The study findings indicated that factors that determine job satisfaction such as compensation and pay, promotion, relationship with co-workers, relationship with manager/supervisors, and safety of the work were crucial for the performance of workers. The study concluded that job satisfaction has positive and significant impact on performance at the work place. The study further concluded that challenges of job satisfaction such as low levels of pay, lack of promotion and bonuses as well as training were issues staff pointed out to be bordering them. The study thus, recommends that government and management of Ghana education service, national commission for civil education and Electoral commission in the Dormaa East District in the bono region should try to improve on these challenges by ensuring that staff get well-deserving salaries, promotions, compensations to motivate them.
