ABSTRACTThe study investigated the nature, causes, challenges and management strategies of indiscipline in senior high schools in the Sekyere South District of Ashanti. The objectives of the study were to find out the state of indiscipline in the Senior High Schools, the major causes of indiscipline among senior high school students, identify the types of indiscipline acts prevalent among secondary school students and suggest measures that could be taken to curb students’ indiscipline among students. The target population for the study was all students in the public Senior High Schools in the Sekyere district. With a total population of 3711 students and to ensure a 5 percent margin of error, the sample size required for the study was 337 using Yamane (2009) formula for sample determination. The study used a quantitative method which relied on the questionnaire as an instrument for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) with the use of the Statistical Product for Service Solution (SPSS) version 25. The study revealed that the nature of indiscipline problems in the Sekyere South District include substance abuse (Indian hemp, alcohol), leaving school premises without exeat, lateness to class and another social gathering, rudeness to teachers and fighting among students, practising homosexuality/ lesbianism, among others. Again, poor relationships between teachers and students and parental negligence were revealed as the major causes of indiscipline. Additionally, robust guidance and counselling services for the school administration and teachers to create a conducive environment for learning was discovered as effective ways of dealing with indiscipline. Finally, students’ failure to adhere to school rules and regulations as well as lack of parental support in disciplining students was the main challenges faced in managing indiscipline. The study recommended among others reintroduction of corporal punishment, robust counselling services, and rigid enforcement of school code and conduct for both teachers and students as means of curbing students’ indisciplineTABLE OF CONTENTSDECLARATIONDEDICATIONACKNOWLEDGEMENTTABLE OF CONTENTSLIST OF TABLESLIST OF FIGURESABSTRACTCHAPTER ONEINTRODUCTION1.1 Background to the study1.2 Statement of the problem1.3 Purpose of the study1.3.1 Specific Objectives1.3.2 Research questions1.4 Significance of the study1.5 Delimitations of the study1.6 Limitations of the study1.7 Organization of the study1.8 Definition of Key TermsCHAPTER TWOLITERATURE REVIEW2.0 Introduction2.1 Theoretical Review2.1.1.
