ABSTRACTContraception is an important component of reproductive health due to its contribution to maternal health. Contraception helps to prevent unplanned pregnancy and unsafe abortion, and their related risks thus reducing the number of deaths related to pregnancy. The main objective of the study is to assess the use of contraceptive and future intentions among women in their reproductive age in Suma Ahenkro. This is an analytical cross-sectional, conducted among 310 women in their reproductive age in the Suma Ahenkro District Ghana. These women were randomly selected from within the selected communities which were also selected randomly from the Suma Ahenkro district. Checklist was used to obtain information from the family planning centers in the municipality. From the study, it was observed that the future intentions on contraceptives was higher in women who had higher educational background and married. Among the ages of 26-30 years was the higher group age who practiced the right usage of contraceptives, whiles the least of the participants remain as house wives with 27 (0.09%). There were low religious disparities between the traditionalist and Muslims whiles Christians gain the highest percentage indicating 223.2 (72%). The highest, 161(10.39%) respondents use condoms as protection against unwanted pregnancy and delay of pregnancy. 71.2% declared an absolute knowledge on the side effects on the use of contraceptives. This indicates the right perception and effective use of contraceptive among the women in reproductive age within the selected communities in the right proportions.Although, the current use of contraceptives in the area is higher than it is nationwide, educational programmes should be put in place to increase the awareness level and also address safety concerns about contraceptives.
