ABSTRACTThe objective of this study was to assess the influence of sexual education on sexual behaviour of JHS adolescents at the Old Ningo sub-district of the Ningo Prampram District, Grater Accra. The descriptive research design was used to undertaken the study. The total sample selected for the study was 200 JHS students at the Old Ningo Sub-district. The results of the study revealed that sexual education knowledge among JHS adolescents were above average. Further, it was revealed that the respondents had positive attitudes toward sexual education. Moreover, it reviled that sexual education had statistically significant effect on sexual behaviour among JHS adolescents. The study recommended that civil society organizations (CSOs), health professionals and teachers in the Old Ningo sub-district intensify the sex education with emphasis to correct the misconception and inaccurate knowledge of puberty and bodily changes. Thus, the medium for propagation of these messages on sex education should be through parents, relatives, teachers and peers as well. It further recommended that PPAG clinics, hospitals and community health facilities should intensify education on contraceptive and as well as how to properly use of it. Also the sexual education programme of PPAG, health centres, clinics and schools should target males aged group 15 – 19 mostly in their effort in educating about contraceptive and it proper use or abstinence. Finally, it was recommended that such programmes should not cluster those aged below 16 years and adolescents between 16 – 19 years together. They must be tailored to the segregated segments of the adolescents when programmes on sex education and contraceptive use are designed for them.
