The purpose of this dissertation is to examine the level of safeguards the Assisted Dying Bill ('ADB') provides to terminally ill persons ('TIP') and explore alternative options in enhancing the ADB's safeguard. The assisted dying legislation of various overseas jurisdictions such as the Australian states of Western Australia and Victoria, Oregon, Canada, Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland will be examined throughout the dissertation. Then, the ADB of these jurisdictions will be contrasted, and the appropriate provisions that might enhance the ADB's safeguard will be selected. The applicable human rights and ethical concerns regarding ADB will also be discussed. As the adequate safeguard is vital to protect the TIP and health care practitioners ('HCP') from the potential inadequacies of the ADB, additional safeguards will be argued as these are imperative in improving the current ADB and its chance to be enacted by the UK Parliament.
