ABSTRACT: The construction industry plays a significant role in a nation’s social and economic development. There cannot be much progress in national development without construction, particularly in developing countries where there is lack of infrastructure and other basic facilities. Building construction projects form a bulk of construction projects in Ethiopia and are paramount in the areas of housing, business and public undertakings. The important role building constructions play in the economy underlines the necessity for assessing hazards in these construction projects with a view of identifying the causes of hazards and their source in construction site which affects the successful completion of the projects. The study begins with review of the important aspects of construction hazards and the sources of hazards. It then takes a casual analysis to establish the extent of hazards in the project, the causes for the hazards and the effect of the on the building construction project. Results of the study showed that (1) there is significant hazards in building construction projects in Nekemte City. (2) Collapse of scaffolding, falling of materials from the height, carelessness of the worker and Improper use of safety tools. (3) Other causes of hazards including new technology and sharp corner on the site, lack of adequate and skilled personnel, lack of appropriate supervision and numerous. Generally, Chapter 1 deals with Introduction part of the study, Chapter 2 deals with the literature review of the study, Chapter 3 deals with the Methodology used to perform the study, Chapter 4 deals with the Analysis of the data gathered, and Chapter 5 deals with the Conclusion and Recommendation, Suggestion for Future Research
