ABSTRACTThis study is on the effects of multiple taxations on the performance of small businesses. Over the years, small businesses have been an avenue of job creation and empowerment for the people in the Sunyani Municipality, providing about 60% of all jobs in the Municipality and also for local capital formation. However, the mortality rates of these small businesses are very high. Among the factors responsible for these untimely close-ups are tax-related issues, ranging from multiple taxations to enormous tax burdens. The study therefore examines the effects of multiple taxations on Small businesses' survival. The study involves a survey research design with a population of 80. The researchers derived their sample size to arrive at 80 and a self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. This data was qualitatively analyzed with simple percentages and bar charts. Findings revealed that multiple taxations have a negative effect on Small businesses' survival in the municipality and the relationship between their size and their ability to pay taxes is significant. The research, therefore, recommends that government should come up with uniform tax policies that will favor the development of small businesses in Ghana and the government should put into consideration the size of these small businesses when formulating tax policies.
