ABSTRACT The purpose of the study was to examine how inventory management serves as a determinant to Patient satisfaction in Dormaa West District Hospital-Nkrankwanta. The study objectives were designed; to examine the procurement process, storage, and issuing of stocks at the Dormaa West District Hospital, to investigate the inventory management techniques the hospital adopted, to further examine the perception on inventory management and patient’s satisfaction, to find out the relationship between Inventory Management and patient’s satisfaction. Data were collected at four stages; the hospital staff, the health care receivers (patients), private pharmaceutical shops, and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) staff using a combined sample size of 40 from the various target groups. Descriptive and quantitative techniques were used to present the data to establish the real situation in inventory management and its effect on patient satisfaction. The research findings showed that all the procurement process governed by the public procurement Act and the Ministry of Health (MOH) Procurement Procedure Manual was strictly adhered to by the Procurement unit but the units were under staff with three (3) casual storekeepers and they do not have a Procurement Officer. It was also revealed that stocks were stored at their respective storage points and with regards to the issuing of stock drugs to patients, the outcome was that Patients are not always given all their prescriptions when they go to the Hospital Pharmacy hence, cases of frequent drug stock-out and the expensive drugs that National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) do not cover. The inventory management techniques employed by the facility were Economic Order Quantity and ABC analysis. Finally, 90% of the respondents strongly believed that efficient and effective inventory management is one of the determinants of improving patient satisfaction but the situation of unavailability of inventories at the pharmacy in the hospitals has led to patients becoming worried about their medical condition. It was recommended that stakeholders should help to address the issue of stock out syndrome at the Hospital since this has an effect on patients' care and satisfaction.
