ABSTRACT: Background: Adolescents are people between the ages of 12-19 years. Adolescence is the period in which most adolescents engage in risky sexual behaviors. Thus contraception use among adolescents prevent pregnancy. Adolescent pregnancy is a global public challenge since most adolescents suffer from pregnancy-related complications. This study sought to determine the prevalence and factors associated with contraceptive use among female adolescents in the Dormaa Central Municipality. Method: The study employed a health facility-based cross-sectional design and a simple random sampling technique to enlist 362 respondents. A well-structured study questionnaire was used to assemble data on respondent’s socio-demographic factors, and the factors, influencing contraceptive use among female adolescents. Descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression were conducted between the dependents and the independent variables and a p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: The study found that single and Co-habiting female adolescents in rural communities were more likely to use contraception [AOR=5.0 (95%CI=1.6-4.5), P=0.001], [AOR=3.0 (95%CI=1.3-5.8), P=0.004] respectively. The use of injectable contraceptives among female adolescents was less likely to contribute to contraception use [AOR =0.07 (95%CI=0.1-0.4), P=0.004]. Coitus interuptus influences a female adolescent to use contraception [AOR=2.6 (95%CI=4.3,-10.6), P=0.001] whilst pregnancy was found to reduce contraceptive use among female adolescents [AOR=7.2 (95%CI=2.9-16.4), P=0.00].Conclusion: Health education targeted among female adolescents on contraceptive use should be enhanced and intensified. Also, female adolescents who are single, or Co-habiting and reside in rural communities should be supported and encouraged to use the different types of available contraceptives.TABLE OF CONTENTSDECLARATION..........................................................................................................................
